Hidden Tips
To make the most out of your stay, here is what a "Cave Room" and a "Stone Room" actually mean. Cave rooms are carved inside the rock; therefore, they are quite atmospheric. They possess natural soundproofing qualities with steady temperature attributes but display the lack of windows which makes them feel dark—stone rooms have been built from cut stone blocks (arch rooms); normally having windows together with high ceilings in tradition. If you are claustrophobic, book a Stone Room / Arch room. If you want the full authentic experience, book a Cave room.
The most important activity is the Hot Air Balloon flight. Do not wait until you get there to book this. Book it weeks or months in advance, for the first morning of your stay. Weather often grounds the balloons, so if your flight is on the first morning then you have backup days available if a flight gets canceled. Even if you are not flying , wake up anyway . Go to hotel's terrace at 5:30 AM (or whatever time sunrise is). The staff usually sets up some cushions and maybe even tea . Watching 100+ balloons fill the sky while call to prayer echoes through valley , its a spiritual experience .
Footwear. The town is dusty and has uneven cobblestone pavements. Appropriate sturdy walking shoes or boots for the hikes and hotel approach will do just fine- leave those high heels behind; they won’t even get to see daylight here! Also, remember that though it’s summer during most months of tourism in Cappadocia, this part lies within a desert climate zone which means nights & early mornings (when watching balloons) can be quite cold-bring layers.
